Nicolas Anelka is the top goal scorer in the 2008 – 2009 season of the Barclays premier League, followed closely by the ex Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo. Steven Gerrard is third on the list even though he was injured for a few matches of the season and rested for the champion’s league encounters. Robinho, Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres had an injury hit season and so were not on the score cards much and managed less than fifteen goals last season. The goals majorly came from mid fielders last season who basically dictated the game as strikers were injured most of the time. Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard , Ashley Young, Steven Ireland and Francesc Fabregas had a good season this time out though Fabregas performed better last to last season. Robin Van Persie is the leader in assists followed by Dimitar Berbatov of Manchester United. As expected selfish Cristiano Ronaldo is now where to be seen in the list of assists leaders. Nicolas Anelka managed 7 assists apart from the nineteen goals he netted, so he gets the player of the season award from our analysts. This season teams have a few new faces and some players have left so the position is up for grabs yet again.
